Projects stand or fall with requirements. They must be clearly defined so that the system being developed meets the needs of the stakeholders. Well-defined requirements provide a clear guiding principle for development.

In the AERO-SH project, we are responsible for defining the requirements and verifying compliance with them. This project is developing a modular system for transport drones that can be customized to meet individual customer needs. For validation purposes, two prototypes, each with a payload capacity of 100 kg, are being manufactured. Drones of this size represent an efficient and sustainable solution for the future of logistics.

AERO-SH is coordinated by the Kiel University of Applied Sciences and implemented in collaboration with other industry partners such as TECCON. The project began in August 2025.

AERO-SH is being carried out as part of the UAM-InnoRegion-SH initiative, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space.

Mass is one of the most critical factors in the performance of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It has a direct impact on flight duration and payload capacity. It is therefore no coincidence that carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) components are often used to keep the drones' empty weight as low as possible.

EmpowerAX is a scientific collaboration among various companies initiated by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) to advance the use of continuous carbon fibers in 3D printing. Among other applications, the initiative focuses on UAVs, where the combination of flexibility from 3D printing and strength from continuous carbon fibers enables highly optimized systems.

Embedded in lightweight plastics, locally placed continuous carbon fibers provide the necessary strength where loads occur. This allows savings in material costs and the realization of highly optimized ultra-lightweight designs.

Within EmpowerAX, stakeholders from different fields collaborate. In addition to companies researching materials, developing additive manufacturing processes, and examining end-use applications, we at Finite Air are developing the Tessell8 engineering platform to bring the design of these systems to life. This enables Tessell8 to create designs not only for traditional but also for advanced production processes.

Climate change, skills shortages, European sovereignty: all these challenges increase the need for robotic systems such as drones. They can quickly provide first responders with an overview of the situation in disaster scenarios, independently carry out inspections on wind turbines, or secure critical infrastructure. However, the development of complex systems is being slowed down by these very influences: manufacturers lack engineers, and supply chains are being disrupted by trade conflicts or natural disasters. With our Tessell8 and the associated AI agents, we provide drone manufacturers and development service providers with the speed and flexibility they need to survive in today's world. We offer individual AI agents as well as our entire multi-agent system (MAS) as a flexible monthly subscription. This enables our customers to close their individual knowledge gaps and accelerate the development process of robotic systems.

During the Startup Funding Bremen programme, we are developing the Droptimizer, our AI agent for component selection. At the end of the funding period, together with the AI agents currently under development, we will offer a fully automated process from application scenario to concept design ("text-to-concept"). Thanks to the modular structure of our MAS, we can gradually add further AI agents for production planning, for example as part of research programmes with our partners, enabling us to cover the entire drone development process with our AI agents in the medium term.

The project is funded with EUR 150,000 by Starthaus Bremen through EFRE and will run for 18 months, starting in November 2025.
